The DARE Lab

In the Democracy, Anti-Racism, and Equity (DARE) Lab, we use social science research to raise political consciousness and challenge oppression.  The DARE Lab has three organizing principles: 1) mentoring undergraduate and graduate students interested in abolition democracy, anti-racism, and social justice; 2) collecting data on the political beliefs, policy priorities, and civic engagement of social workers, youth, and adults; 3) investigating campus and classroom climate and culture. Our research is rooted in the importance of collaboration and community building. Moreover, we take the position that racism, sexism, etc. are ideologies that undergird our social institutions, thereby, preventing social and human thriving, and our research needs to document how these ideologies operate and provide implications for how to dismantle systems of oppression.
